The Mystery of the Reoccuring Stink, pt 2

Well, what I tried with my diapers seems to have worked for the most part. I got lucky and as able to take advantage of the bright, sunny fall afternoon and was able to line dry all of my inserts, and some of my diapers. There is still a very faint odor, however that may simply be due to the fact that I have a sensitive nose.
This Friday morning when Oscar woke up, his night time diaper did not have any sort of smell. Since I use pockets, after taking out the insert, I sniffed both the insert as well as the diaper itself. (I know kind of gross) I did this withall of his Friday diaper changes and noticed with a couple of them that there was an ammonia smell; however he is a heavy wetter, and so with the ones that were a bit soggier there was a smell. I guess the more urine he produces, the stronger the smell is. He nurses quite frequently, so this means more pee.
Does this mean I won the war? No it just means I’ve won a battle. I still don’t think I have it 100% figured out yet, so I am still trying to figure out other potiental culprits. I realized I hadn’t done a washing machine wash in quite a while, and after doing a load of clothes with Tide*, I was able to smell a faint smell. I concluded part of the issue could be in fact that my washing machine itself was funky and that was not really helping the issue. After doing a washing machine wash, I then did a load of Oscar’s laundry using Rockin’ Green, and it had a perfectly neutral smell. Hopefully when I do a diaper load tomorrow Saturday, the diapers come out smelling slightly better.
I sometimes feel like it’s an uphill fight with cloth diapering especially since I have a front loader. We have dicussed the possibility of getting a cheapie top loader on the local classifieds, but I’m not sure I need to do that yet. My awesome Mother in law has kindly given me the go ahead to come and use her top loading washing machine, so I will see if that actually makes a difference.
*Yes, I am aware that using Tide as well as diaper soap can be causing contributing to the issue. Jeff has agreed that once the Tide has run out, we can start using Rockin Green full time; at the very least until Oscar is potty trained and at that point we will figure out where to go from there.
